Not creative - I don't even have a title

So I went to the Toronto FC game on Tuesday, as I posted earlier. I am not a big fan of soccer, even during World Cups or Euro Cups I can barely pay attention. But I found myself joining the rowdy fan crowd VERY easily. I completely joined in the yelling, clapping, stomping of feet that I was a little surprised myself. Despite the tie, I thoroughly enjoyed the game and hope to see another one very soon.

So I managed to get a co-op job after my first interview. I am excited to be starting at a new place, the only downside is that I get no vacation time. I ending school on Aug 15th and I start the job on Aug 18th. And my wish to spend Christmas and New Years in Korea is not going to happen either because I will be working straight through to January 9th and school starts on the 12th. Oh well, more money for me I guess.

Reading has been slow for me this week. I've been very tired but insomniatic so mostly tossing and turning. I'm continuing with Kushiel's Scion. It's getting good and I'm about halfway in or halfway through, depending on whether you're an opitimist or a pessimist.

School is starting to scare me a little bit. I won't lie, I've been slacking. It's hard to do school in the summer. All I want to do is hang out with my friends and do everything that isn't school related.

Wednesday N and I had our traditional/weekly lunch, this time we went to Rosewood. It was nice to have a bit of a change. The food was delish! I vaguely recalled that I had to work that evening so thankfully I was not late. I worked Thursday as well and last night I went out with A to Milestone's for some bellini's and then we went back to her place to talk. I'm not a cat person but her cat is personable. He's like a dog, wanting to have his belly rubbed, etc. I loved him.

That's all for now. Today will be all about me doing school work and working in some reading every once in awhile. Cheers.

Fun filled weekend

Friday...
After my class, I went to see Mamma Mia! I liked it, but I like musicals. It wasn't some amazing movie that everyone needs to run out and see now, but it was funny and entertaining. Meryl Streep was great - but that's a given. She's great in everything she does. Amanda Seyfried was great as well, but I kept picturing her walking around drunk a la Lilly Kane from Veronica Mars. (the last character I saw her play) The only person who I did not enjoy as much would be Pierce Brosnan. It's not that he was bad. It's just that his voice is interesting. Maybe I'm just not used to 007 opening his mouth and hearing him sing.

Saturday...
Well this day wasn't exactly as fun filled. Some major cleaning needed to be done. And I quickly re-read The Host.

Sunday...
Finished my re-reading. Stopped by work to pick up a top for a job interview. And went shoe shopping. Sterling Shoes was having too awesome of a sale for me to pass up. I bought 3 pairs of shoes. They are all quite nice. I need to buy at least two more.

Monday...
In the morning, I headed out for my job interview. It went well. I blanked on a fairly easy question but other than that, I thought it was quite good. Afterwards, I picked up a friend and met another friend at the theatre and the three of us went to go watch The Dark Knight. I was very excited to finally see this movie. And it really did not disappoint me. It was quite long though. *SPOILER AHEAD* And they fit two villians into the one movie. It seemed like it was in two parts, the movie could have been two separate movies. Heath Ledger played the Joker creepily, which is the point. He was really amazing. I don't know if it was as great as everyone is making it out to be with the talk of a posthumous Oscar, but nevertheless he was great. After the long movie, we had worked up an appetite so we had a 4th friend meet us at my favourite place and we had lunch and dessert. When I got home, I started reading another book. I don't want to sound like too much of a bookworm, or someone with no life, but there is NOTHING on TV these days, except for Big Brother. The only thing there is to do is read. And I'm happy I'm finally getting some time to do it. So since I've read the first three books of Jacqueline Carey's Kushiel Series, I've decided to continue one with book 4. Originally I sat down yesterday and started reading Kushiel's Justice. Then about 50 pages in, I was noticing that I must've missed something. Then I realized Kushiel's Scion was actually book 4 so I read that. The thing about Carey's book is they are all so long, roughly 900-1000 pages each. But I welcome a nice long read right now, since I'm still having a hard time getting Twilight out of my system and moving on.

The upcoming weeks look to be very busy and interesting. Lots of school work to be done, lots of finals to study for, a job to still find. Next month I'm seeing Cirque du Soleil Saltimbanco, so I'm excited for that. I have a 45th wedding anniversary to attend and an annual BBQ/picnic that my best friend is throwing - the exciting thing about that is she is home for a week from Korea. I've missed her! Tonight it's off to a TFC game vs Montreal Impact with my dad - a father's day gift. Should be good. Apparently, TFC has hired some awesome chefs to make the food at the games so I think I will sample a few of them tonight. I especially want to try Ye Olde Chip Butty - fresh cut fries between buttered bread. All I know is that tonight I'm in carb heaven!

It's the End of the World as we Know it

The economy is crumbling in the good 'ole U.S. of A. Several banks have had to declare bankruptcy and people are having to drive to different locations in different cities and states in order to take out their cash. Up to $100,000 of their money is insured, but anything above that mark is pretty much gone. They will only receive 50cents per $1 they have over $100,000. Thankfully, I don't think too many American citizens have that much in their accounts. There have been too many foreclosures and job loss in the States for any one to still have over $100,000 let alone HALF of that amount.

I've needed to get away from Twilight a bit. It turned into a bit of a drug. I've shared the books with a friend to get them hooked on it. Someone to share my obsession with me. The two of us will be going to Chapters at midnight on Friday August 1st, 2008 in order to buy the newest book as quickly as possible. This way, I will still be able to finish reading it on the 2nd, and still be able to study for all my exams. I've decided there is no way for me to be able to wait until after exams to read it. It just is not feasible.

Off to lunch today with some friends. I've been keeping a fairly good balance of socializing, school, work and reading. If I have time today, I hope I can get at least half way through The Host or maybe continue with You are SO not invited to my Bat Mitzvah. I just need something to get me off of Twilight for the time being. I went by my friends house yesterday to drop off Book #2 and #3. I told them that they wouldn't be able to read any other book but the continuation of Twilight and I was right. They found that as well. They tried to read something else, but they couldn't. I am going through withdrawals currently. Weird, I don't think I've ever been affected by a book so much.

Yesterday, I went to see Journey to the Centre of the Earth - complete with 3D glasses. The movie pleasantly surprised me. It was funny and interesting. And definately worth watching with the Real 3D. Without it, then don't bother. But it's worth watching with it! Brendan Fraser is funny. The movie reminded me that he plays pretty well in the comedic role. I will be waiting to see him in the newest Mummy movie.

Lions and Hymens and Bears...Oh My

So apparently the new "it" thing, or maybe not "it" thing but the newest possibility of a trend is called a hymenoplasty. In other words, with one hour long surgery and $2,500, you can buy your virginity back! Why would anyone want their virginity back?!?! You get rid of it for a reason. However, there are apparently some that do request it back. Usually this has to do with getting married and being a virgin on one's wedding night. Some cultures take this more seriously then others, so some women are choosing to get a hymenoplasty done while others are being asked to get it done by their families. This was all in the Saturday Star under this article, for those wishing to read the whole thing. http://www.thestar.com/article/456711 I guess some put a lot of importance into the hymen. Just because it's broken doesn't mean you've had sex. I find this all to be quite ridiculous. I believe in the Charlotte York virgin idea - if you haven't had sex for a year, you are a born again virgin.

Apparently I live on a property with some magic bushes. One time, they procured a Best Of Nirvana album for me. Yesterday they presented me with some Nintendo Wii Composite Cables. What are the odds? They retail for $39.99 at my nearest Best Buy. My guess is that someone stole them and then threw them into my bushes to hide them. Idiot should've known never to throw it into bushes located on a well-kept lawn. The Park Ranger makes daily rounds.

I am currently watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer for the first time in years. It's amazing seeing it again and cringing a little bit. And also realizing how young I was when I first watched the show. And I realized something odd. No matter the fact that obviously Buffy and the main characters obviously live for awhile, especially since they had about 7 or 8 seasons, I still sometimes get worried someone is about to die. Very juvenile of me.

Lather, Rinse, Repeat

The paper has had a few articles in the past couple of days regarding a tragic accident on the 401. The culprit? A 39-year old man. The real culprit? Road rage. Apparently the two cars involved were jostling for pole position on the way to the highway at around 5am. Once there, the road rager changed lanes to move right in front of the victim's SUV and slammed on his brakes. In order to prevent hitting him, the SUV swerved out of the way, hit the guard rail, and proceeded to flip for a number of metres. The driver was ejected from his seat, through the front windshield dying instantly. Is it worth it? Of course not. It makes me think to myself, about how someone can go to far in an instant. Was the man who caused the accident able to foresee what he was about to do? How he was about to take the life of an innocent man over something so trivial? Did he think it through? I think probably not. He left the scene of the crime, most likely in shock, not turning himself in to police until the following day.

As I mentioned in the previous post, I had just finished reading the Twilight series. The relationship between Bella and her boyfriend vampire Edward is so, for better lack of a word, perfect. I re-read the three books, focusing on only Bella and Edward (since the majority of Book Two has Edward leaving her, so I was able to skim through that one). It's amazing the things I had missed the first time. I notice I do this a lot. If it is something I am really interested in reading, I have an urge to finish it as quickly as possible. Then once I finish it, I feel like I missed things. Most of the time, I don't go back to it. But these past few weeks, two things have caused me to feel this way. The Twilight series and Veronica Mars Season 1 through 3. Now with Veronica Mars, I feel I can justify it a little better, as I watched Season 1 & 2 online and the quality wasn't the greatest and since each episode was in 2 parts, there were occasional bits I would miss. So I went out and purchased all three seasons and watched it all again in succession. It's definately one of my favourite shows. Too bad about it being cancelled - seems like the good ones always are.

With Twilight, it's one of the few series I've decided to re-read. The other being Harry Potter, and that was only because there was a large gap between some of them. I didn't read all 7 at once. When Book 4 came out, I re-read the first three. Then when Book 7 came out, I read book 5 and 6. Interestingly enough, I realized I did not remember reading Book 6. I knew I had because it seemed familiar but I didn't remember anything that happened. When a friend told me that Dumbledore had died, I thought she had ruined Book 7 for me, when in reality, I didn't remember it had already happened. This all sounds very juvenile, considering my age. Here I am talking about Harry Potter and the Twilight series, which is considered a young adult series. But I am a sucker for a good story. And I like to read. Book 4 of Twilight comes out August 2nd. And I have final exams the following week. Dilemma. Do I study half my subjects before hand and speed read the book when I get it? I could finish it in one day if I choose to. Then I could continue studying afterwards. Or do I leave it until after exams as a reward? I know my willpower. I know it sucks. If I left it, I would most likely read it at the worst opportunity. I guess I could avoid buying it until I was done, but I know I wouldn't do that either. I would end up going to my nearest Chapters after an exam and buying it and reading it instead of studying for the next one.

So about a month ago, I watched all 5 season of NCIS - another favourite. Thank god that this is one show that isn't cancelled. It's amazing the things the brain can pick out. In one scene of the show, there was an amazing song playing in the background. I listened closely for some lyrics and google'd them. "All We Are" by Matt Nathanson - for those who wish to check it out. Now suddenly, I see all these facebook friends adding his page to their as fans. I guess if I listened to the radio, I might know more about him. But I don't and I prefer it that way.

Weekend Nights Twilights

This morning's Toronto Star had an interesting article regarding the blossoming relationship between George Dubya and Stephen Harper. It was reported earlier that they were already on a first name basis as Dubya has been refering to Harper as Steve for awhile now. At this month's G8 Summit, Dubya called Steve over with a "Yo, Harper!" for a photo-op with the Nigerian President. Looks like Dubya and Harper are forming a BFF relationship a la Dubya-Blair. And we all know how that turned out!

I recently walked into my nearest Chapters and was hit in the face (not literally) with a large display holding Stephanie Meyer's novels as a prelude to her newest being released August 2nd, 2008. I had never read a single one, or even heard of it until I saw it online and in the store. But regardless of that fact, I picked up every single one - all 4 of them and took them to the cash desk. (After adding Merde Happens and another Chick-Lit to the pile) Three of the four Meyer books were a series about Bella Swan, a regular girl who starts school in a small town because of her decision to go live with her father. I don't know what drew me to purchase these books as I had read the back and realized it was about Vampires. I am not a reader of those stories. I AM a reader of the fantasy genre, but I have kept myself attached to only three authors: Jacqueline Carey, Juliet Marillier, and Anne Bishop. Therefore, I was skeptical with regards to the Twilight series.

I had just finished reading God is Dead and was going to get started on You are SO Not Invited to my Bat Mitzvah but I decided to give Twilight a shot. Starting Saturday around 8pm, I sat myself down and got started reading Twilight. Quickly it became 1am and I was a 400 pages into a 500 page book. I really did not want to put it down but I found I needed to because of an early staff meeting the next morning. I hurried home after the staff meeting in order to get Twilight finished. An hour later, Twilight was done and I was onto New Moon. I was excited that this book had 50 more pages than the last and I found myself again leaving around 100 pages before falling asleep. Monday I woke up early and did not feel like sleeping again because I wanted to know what else was going to happen between Bella and her vampire boyfriend Edward. Around 11am, Eclipse was started. A lovely 630 pages that I breezed through and finished around 5pm. Now is when the waiting starts. I now need to wait a month until Breaking Dawn comes out. There are two things about series books that I can't stand. The first is that one must wait in between books, and this is long and tedious and secondly, because eventually they do end and that's very sad. As I write this, I have just read that Meyer is also working on a companion book to Twilight from Edward's perspective. Although the book has no publishing date yet and is nowhere near done, I am eagerly anticipating its arrival. The first chapter is available for preview on her website. I just read it and I already love it.

Also this weekend, I watched Hancock. It was surprisingly a lot more funnier than I expected it to be. Since I've seen a plethora of hero movies recently, it was nice to see one where the hero was dealing negatively with his powers. Not negatively like the Hulk, because Hancock knew he couldn't get rid of his power. But alone in the fact that according to him, he was one of a kind and knew nothing about his past, so he ended up becoming a drunkard. I'd give the movie 3 stars out of 4. Jason Bateman's character provided a nice comedic value that complimented Will Smith's Hancock. Good movie, download it! :D
